Setouchi Triennale is a contemporary art festival held every three years in Japan, on a dozen of the islands in the Seto Inland Sea, as well as at a number of inland ports.
It is one of the largest showcases of contemporary art and features a large pool of local and international artists. Unlike other major exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, with “expo-style” national pavilions and themed exhibitions, the projects presented at Setouchi predominately have intricated relationship with their sites, local residents and nature. Seven of AVA students spent two weeks to help set up the art projects in the summer of 2016.
