The talk will illustrate the projects that the speaker Matthew Jarratt has been involved with in cultural development in cities, commissioning sculpture and place making. The speaker will particularly focus on the art projects that have led the development of Newcastle/Gateshead in the North East of England, Cheeseburn Sculpture – a new sculpture park and gallery that he has developed and some of his recent projects with artists in China.
About the speaker:
Matthew Jarratt completed his Master in Fine Art at Northumbria University in 1990 and worked as an artist and lecturer until 1998 when he joined Northern Arts/Arts Council England. He spent 15 years at Arts Council England as a creative broker helping to shape the North East culture-led regeneration, developing many new arts buildings and artist’s projects across the region. He now works internationally as a cultural consultant and art curator. Recently, he was appointed as a Visiting Professor with Newcastle University to develop closer links through arts and culture between Newcastle and China/EastAsia.
