Presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) and funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, JOCKEY CLUB New Arts Power is going to present After the Deluge at the Tai Hang Tung Stormwater Storage Tank by Mr. Kingsley Ng in January 2018. With the generous support of the Drainage Services Department (DSD), the Storage Tank will unprecedentedly become the locale of a site-specific artwork and will be open for guided tours during the exhibition period. AVA is proud to organise an Exclusive Experience Tour for the faculty as well as the alumni before the start of the normal sections. Kingsley will lead the tour in person.
Hong Kong has a sub-tropical climate and rainfall is common every year from April to October. Flooding used to be a major problem in Mong Kok before the 90s. To alleviate the risk of flood, DSD pioneered the Tai Hang Tung Stormwater Storage Tank Scheme. It is Hong Kong’s first and biggest underground water storage facility, which is equivalent to the volume of 40 Olympic-size swimming pools. Designed to collect rainwater from Beacon Hill, Sham Shui Po and Tai Hang Tung, the Storage Tank has a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters and a flow interception of 70 cubic meters per second.
Centered on the theme of water, accompanied by site-specific art installation and navigated by specially designed audio soundscape, participants will take a dive into Tai Hang Tung Stormwater Storage Tank and experience the story of contemporary Yu the Great from a refreshing perspective.
