The Young Creative Entrepreneur (YCE) Award is a business start-up competition established in 2014 with the generous funding of Mr Brandon T.C. Liu. The award aims at encouraging students and recent graduates of the Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) to develop their creative ideas into executable plans and self-sustainable innovative businesses.

 

YOUNG CREATIVE ENTREPRENEUR (YCE) AWARD 2022 SCHEDULE ELIGIBILITY ENQUIRY

The Young Creative Entrepreneur (YCE) Award is a business start-up competition established in 2014 with the generous funding of Mr Brandon T.C. Liu. The award aims at encouraging students and recent graduates of the Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) to develop their creative ideas into executable plans and self-sustainable innovative businesses.

The YCE Award gives out two awards:

Prototyping Award – HK$5,000

  • The winner(s) will receive a cash prize of HK$5,000* to support a pilot run of a concept or the production of a prototype (e.g. a book, a mobile app, a sample product, etc.).
  • This award is most suitable for students or graduates who have an initial creative concept or product and would like to test its practicality. 

Business Start-up Award – Maximum HK$50,000·  

  • The award grants up to HK$50,000* to the winner(s) to implement an original, innovative and well-thought-out creative business concept.
  • This award is intended for students or graduates who have a comprehensive creative business plan but lack the initial seed funding. 

*The grant amount to be given out will be subject to the availability of funding and quality of applications received.

 After initial implementation of a project, previous winners of the YCE Award may submit a follow-up proposal to apply for an interest-free loan to expand their new business after its successful setup.

Business Development Loan – Maximum HK$100,000;

  • An interest-free loan of maximum HK$100,000 to help YCE winners to further develop their businesses.

Sharing Sessions 

This year we will invite four creative entrepreneurs to share their experiences on brainstorming innovative concepts, and how to make it a self-sustainable business. Don’t miss it if you’re interested in setting up a creative business yourself. Details of the Sharing Session will be announced soon.

On-demand Tutorials

In the current edition of YCE Award, Centre for Research and Development in Visual Arts will provide on-demand tutorials to AVA students and recent graduates to assist them in writing up and reviewing their business proposal, and preparing for the project pitching. Deadline for submission of proposals for the competition – 9 June 2022  

Panel Shortlist – June 2022

Project Pitches – Late June 2022

Notification of results – July 2022

Award Presentation – Mid-October 2022

Applications can be made on an individual or group basis. For individual applicants, he/she must be:

  • Final year students of Associate Degree in Visual Arts, BA (Hons) in Visual Arts or Master of Arts in Visual Arts offered by AVA;
  • Students from AVA’s Research Postgraduate (MPhil/PhD) programmes;
  • Recent graduates of AVA (usually within two years after graduation).

For group applications, the principal applicant must fulfill the above eligibility criteria for individual applicants, but there is no such limitation for other group members.
