Technology has always informed and shaped the way sculpture has been made.
This talk will focus on the way in which technology has advanced and influenced production and aesthetics of sculpture throughout the centuries.
Showing examples from historic to more recent and contemporary productions, Altenburger will explain the dynamics between technological advances and how artists react, integrate and inform progress in technology throughout the centuries.
With decades of experience in the field, Altenburger will particularly focus on the production of stone artefacts and sculptures through the ages.
Ekkehard Altenburger is a sculptor whose work explores the physical balance of the built environment, using architectural references as well as sculptural volumes of physical material. Altenburger serves as Assistant Professor at Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, and his current research investigates methods of digital production and aspects of artistic control and authenticity when digital production methods are used. Altenburger studied sculpture at Bremen’s Hochschule fuer Kuenste and Edinburgh College of Art, and received his MA from Chelsea College of Art in London.
