Similarities and differences between epidemic prevention images and visual communications in Hong Kong and Mainland China ABOUT THE SPEAKER MODERATOR LANGUAGE NOTES TO STUDENTS
As a usual practice of official institutions in mainland China, artists have developed various policy-oriented works addressing the COVID epidemic. In the age of multimedia communications, are there any changes for these artworks on its role of public mobilization? In addition, are there any new forms of visual expression emerged in the epidemic? The institutional environments of Hong Kong and mainland China are different. Are there any similarities or differences between the visual images created by the mainland and Hong Kong in the face of this epidemic? Through comparative discussions, we will gain further insight about the relations between visual images and social movements.
Hu Bin born in Changsha, Hunan. He received the bachelor and master degree from the Department of Art History of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA), and PHD from the Chinese National Academy of Arts. He worked in the editorial department of Guangdong Museum of Art, the Triennial Office, the Department of Art History of GAFA and the Art Museum of GAFA. He is currently the dean and professor of the School of Arts and Humanities of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. His research directions are art history of Chinese revolution in 20th century, exhibition history of Chinese modern and contemporary art. And he has worked as a critic and curator of contemporary art for many years. He is the author of "Visual Reformation: the Sectional Interpretation of Chinese Fine Art in 20th Century" and "What best Represents China? The Display of China and Its National Image in World Expositions".
