Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) graduates Livy Leung and Zac Choy won three awards at the Fresh Trend 2018 Art Graduates Joint Exhibition which is now running in Hong Kong City Hall until 3 August 2018.
Livy Leung’s work “It’s okay, everybody will get tired” won the Contemporary of Angela Li Art Award as well as the Winsor & Newton Award.
Livy Leung said, “My painting illustrated that ‘it’s okay, everybody gets tired’ and that we deserve a moment to lay down and relax our overloaded bodies and minds; there are just so many things that worry us, and so much happening in the world.” Livy said she is honoured to be a part, and also an awardee, of the Fresh Trend 2018 Art Graduates Joint Exhibition. She considers it a great opportunity to exhibit her creation to the public through a venue other than the graduation exhibition. She said, “I am grateful for the support from my family, teachers and schoolmates. I would also like to thank AVA for inspiring me with this motto: Constantly question yourself and never stop finding new possibilities through art.”
Zac Choy’s artwork “I can now do what others deem tedious” is an interactive installation which won him the Affordable Art Fair Art Award. With the aim of exploring new ways of seeing, Zac selected short text from Hong Kong literature that best described his feelings after graduation. He incorporated it with interactive media, hoping to create a new viewing experience and promote Hong Kong literature. He is thrilled about winning the prize as he will receive further opportunities to showcase his work in some well-known art events in the future, which will broaden his horizons and enable him to gain more experience. He would also like to thank the Academy of Visual Arts for an education that helped shape him. He was invited to showcase his artwork in the Affordable Art fair next year.
Organised by Hong Kong Art Network, “Fresh Trend 2018 Art Graduates Joint Exhibition” gathers the most outstanding art graduates from the Department of Fine Arts, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Art School and Academy of Visual Arts, HKBU. Every art institute nominated 10 fresh graduates to participate in the exhibition.
