Bookplate, which is a small print attached inside the front cover of a book has been defined by its function as a mark of ownership. This show attempts to explore beyond the existing function of bookplates and use it to unite the people in an era where the private realm seems impossible to be detached from their community, society and politics.
The show is divided into three parts: (1) Inspiration and Ingenuity: an overview of bookplate in its original context as a more individualistic art form through the recent acquisition of international ex libris by HKBU library; (2) Peregrination in Bookplates: An exploration of the capability of bookplate as a medium for the promulgation of ideas and social values, reflected in emerging artists’(AVA students) videos, art guidebook with suggested route-maps as well as bookplates on community art in Hong Kong and heritages in our daily life; (3) Spirits of the Time: featuring emerging artists’(AVA students) bookplates of their passions on keeping Hong Kong value and making a better Hong Kong through their voices on recent incidents in Hong Kong.
