The exhibition reveals the daily neglected self-conditions through everyday objects.
People have no choice but to walk the same route every day: wake up, take a bus, work, eat, then sleep. We hide our emotions to reach the stage of numbness, in order to get through the repetitive days that we had long been bored. But in the moment of respite, we perceive the alienation between normality and true self, with an understanding that the pace of future will have to be the same. We breathe in the air of excessive reality, experiencing the powerlessness of self-existence. The exhibition conducts a withdrawal from the reality to illustrate the disguised emotions of oneself, with reviews on the self-existence through the breath of the exhibition.
Tom presents the inner states of matter in a direct and real way in his art practices. The shelving of artworks and the disregard of audience performs the weakness and alienation between people, creating a sense of cruelty in the watching process. He also uses daily objects to directly intervene with art exhibition venues, transforming the original function of objects into new meanings with expressions on the absurdity of reality.
Stacey brings viewers to the redefinition on surroundings by their practical experiences, through removing the usual form of objects. She discusses on social norms through her minimalistic approach, also with her visual form of nothingness to maximise audience’s thinking and imagination on artworks.
