Lee Kin Ming
In this CCL Talk, Lee Kin Ming will share with us how he inherited his father's career and engaged in making signboard after his graduation from the Department of Geography of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1996. He not only carried on his father’s business, but also became a creative practitioner who promotes the development of a vernacular visual culture that is unique to Hong Kong. Having been in the business for two generations, Lee’s life has always revolved around Chinese characters. In 2016, he launched the “Lee Hon’s street calligraphy conservation project" in order to preserve the culture of handwritten signboard characters. In this project, he digitalised the handwritten fonts of his father and produced a Hong Kong-styled typeface namely "Lee Hong Kong regular script." He also published a book called "Looking at Hong Kong’s Signage" in 2019 and 2020.
