Participating artists: Dr Daniel Chak Kwong Lau and students and alumni of the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University
EXHIBITION INTRODUCTION Large-scale Chinese Calligraphy Performance by Daniel Chak Kwong Lau
The May Fourth Movement is a student movement. Special thanks to the invitation from the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum, students can provide a contribution to this exhibition and give additional meaning to the project.
With the supervision and guidance of the Associate Professor, Dr Daniel Chak Kwong Lau, students and alumni from the Chinese calligraphy and seal engraving classes of the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, created a series of art pieces that embrace the classical beauty of traditional Chinese calligraphy and seal engraving. At the same time, by blending together these special visual art forms, they have incorporated new visions and elements of modern art to express the views held on the May Fourth Movement. Showcasing both traditional and non-traditional elements, this project aims to revisit and understand the meaning of the May Fourth and New Culture Movement, and to echo the spirits and patriotic feelings of the students from 100 years ago.
