The MAVA Grad Show 2026, hosted by the Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) at Hong Kong Baptist University, is titled "Polyphony In Resonance". It explores how we, as practitioners engaging with diverse media, can weave independent voices into a harmonious composition within the same research environment. Polyphony, originating from the ancient Greek word "polyphōnia", means “many voices”, is a musical form in which multiple independent and equal melodic lines unfold simultaneously, intertwining in coexistence. Resonance, in turn, reflects the deep alignment and reverberation of artistic emotion and thought. No two individuals are alike. Amid the rush and flow of everyday life, the resonance evoked by art runs deep — intimate, subtle, and profoundly touching. This is precisely what we aim to present and contemplate: how art connects diverse individuals, distinct creative practices, and varied personalities into a shared composition — one that speaks, responds, and resounds.
Opening Ceremony (By invitation only): July 10, 2026 (Friday), 18:30. Awards will be presented to selected graduates.

Guided by Dr Winnie Yanjing Wu, this talk explores the practical and methodological dimensions of digital ethnography, drawing from two recent studies on TV subtitling and live streaming in China. Dr Wu will discuss the nuances of observing and participating within digital communities as a robust framework for gathering empirical data. The session highlights how these digital ethnographic approaches can be dynamically extended to advance research across the broader fields of arts and media.
