John Aiken is an artist and academic who has extensive experience of working in the area of public art. He has been commissioned to make large-scale environmental artworks in the UK, Ireland, the USA, China and Portugal. His work has also been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in public and private museums and galleries internationally.
He has actively been involved in art education since 1976 and has taught at many art schools and universities in Europe, the USA, Canada, Asia and Australia
He held the post of Slade Professor and Director of the UCL Slade School of Fine Art until 2012 and from 2012 to 2017 he was Chair Professor or Fine Art and Director of the Academy of Visual Arts at HKBU.
He currently lives and works in the south of Portugal.
