INTRODUCTION

The exhibition centres on the idea of weight watching on an international, political and social level. The exhibition presents the work of 17 emerging artists from AVA whose intended interventions are forced to contend with the limits imposed by a weight-watchers world. The artists’ visions are realised through their personal and collective experiences of life lived in relation to self and power, and reflect their responsibility towards a shared future.

The artists’ works comprise diverse media sharing an interest in interaction, forming points of entry into a conversation on art engaging artist, curator and audience.

The exhibition is the outcome of the 4th IAM International Art Movement workshop, organised by German artists and curators Martin Müller and Anne Müller launched at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University in 2017 summer. The exhibition’s collective curation is testimony to the training provided through the workshop.
