Opus is a celebration of fluidity — the ability to embody both the complex individual and the larger collective. Oneness of the self and oneness of the group are not mutually exclusive. The HKBU AVA BA Graduation Show 2024 presents the works of 130 students; each a digest of the reciprocal influence we consistently brought one another throughout the course of our studies. We are simultaneously the affect and the effect, the cog and the machine, the butterfly and the hurricane.

The sputter of my heartbeat thumps in my ear.
A bubbling tinnitus.
The worn helve of the pot grows dark in my palm;
An orange droplet, calescent,
sloshes over the rim.
It hits my arm, leaving a mark.
Slowly, the burble in my chest cascades into a rolling boil.
The drumming begins to swell.
Baptised in a thick deluge of haze and mist,
I put one hand on the receptacle and the other on my chest —
How astonishing it is,
To know this stirring.
