In adopting the title Ping Shek or Flat Rock for our showcase we acknowledge the importance of a steady foundation from which to create and the special location of The Academy of Visual Arts. At a recent class visit to the local Sam Shan Kwok Wong Temple we were given a guided tour of the building by the Temple’s secretary and story teller Mr. Yu. He Explained how the name of the area Ping Shek was derived from the geological landscape which had provided both practical and spiritual stability.
This showcase featuring the work of the students of Further Studies in Studio and Media Arts (Performance Studies): Transdisciplinary Collaboration marks the end of our six week intensive course with AVA Distinguished Visitor Owen Boss and allows us the opportunity to open up our research studio and show our work in progress.
