Talk and Speaker Introduction:
Yung Sau-mui, a studio training person, will share her detoured journey from a printmaker to a curator and a researcher of Hong Kong print art culture.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Yung Sau-mui is currently Programme Director and Principal Printer at Hong Kong Open Printshop. Appointed by the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, she is also Museum Expert Adviser in Hong Kong Art.
To bring Hong Kong printmaking and graphic art to the world, Yung and the HKOP team have curated various international print art exhibitions and promotion schemes since 2007. From 2010, she has also begun researching printmaking and graphic art. Her work has been published in Hong Kong Economic Journal, previous IMPACT conferences, and the Southern Graphic Conference International.
In 2021, Yung and the HKOP team organized IMPACT 11, an international conference presented by Hong Kong Open Printshop, and two thematic exhibitions Between the Lines – The Legends of Hong Kong Printing and 20/20 Hong Kong Print Art Exhibition, jointly presented by Hong Kong Open Printshop and Hong Kong Heritage Museum in 2020.
Yung studied printmaking at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Alabama, Tamarind Institute, and the University of New Mexico with scholarships. Upon returning to Hong Kong, she actively promoted printmaking art development and was awarded by the Secretary for Home Affairs’ Commendation Scheme (Arts and Culture) and HKADC Fellowship for Artistic Development. She was also selected as an artist-in-residence by the Municipal Museum of Gyor, Hungary, and received the Second Award of Macau Printing by Instituto Cultural de Macau. Her prints were shown in multiple international exhibitions and included in public and private collections in the United States, Australia, Hungary, Macau, Hong Kong, and Sichuan, China.
