[CCL] HKBU Honorary University Fellow Webinar: Boundless by Song Dong LANGUAGE NOTES TO HKBU STUDENTS Registration
In celebration of the conferment of Song Dong's Honorary University Fellowship by HKBU, the AVA will be hosting a webinar titled “Boundless” on 30 October 2020 (Friday). The speaker, Song Dong, who is an internationally acclaimed contemporary artist, will discuss the notion of "boundless" and "bai zuo" (白做), which are fundamentally two different yet intertwined concepts. In the Chinese language the word "bai" (白) in "bai zuo" (白做) has multiple meanings, one of which means doing something in vain, while it also means doing something for nothing. Even though it is a word that is difficult to define, its non-utilitarian nature sparked Song Dong's interest and gave him creative impetus. "Boundless" is a concept that leads to a better understanding of different dimensions of a situation and is always the starting point of Song's thinking.
The webinar will be conducted in Putonghua and moderated by Janet Fong Man Yee, Research Assistant Professor of AVA via Zoom, where they will be joined by three respondents: Prof. Leung Mee-ping, Director of the Centre; Dr. Hu Bin, Associate professor of Art Management Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts; and Ms. Ivy Lin, Curator of Oi!. The webinar is free, but registration is required. The webinar is CCL accredited for HKBU students.
