Dr. Sunny Wang is an Associate Professor in Glass Art at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), where she has taught since 2007. She was instrumental in the design and establishment of the glass workshop at HKBU. Before coming to Hong Kong, she taught at the National Taiwan University of Arts. Sunny Wang has also served as an invited teacher at glass intensive workshops at the National Taipei University of Arts and the National Tainan University of Arts on numerous occasions. She was also an invited teacher at The Glass Furnace in Istanbul, Turkey. And Sunny Wang has given academical presentations at the Glass Art Society International Conference and Ausglass Conference.
Sunny Wang was awarded a MVA at Australian National University in 2001 and received her PhD (Visual Arts–Glass) at the University of South Australia in 2012. She has presented numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world. Her works are represented in public and private collections in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Italy, France, Japan, Germany, UK, USA, and elsewhere. Her work has received numerous awards and recognition including the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards, Golden Glass Award in Taiwan, and at the International Glass Exhibition, Kanazawa, Japan. Widely considered one of the leading artists working in glass in East Asia, she continues to explore the material possibilities and meaning-making potentialities of glass in contemporary art.
Sunny Wang explores the many ways glass can be employed in the expression of various concepts and themes in contemporary art. Ongoing concerns include how Chinese concepts such as Qi (氣) and be/coming (being and becoming), and the disciplines of ink art and calligraphy, can be expressed in glass and other media.
