Mr. Wong Chiu Tat, Justin

Assistant Professor, Coordinator of Crafts and Design Division
Comics, Illustrations

Justin Wong received his BA (Fine Arts) in Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1996 and his MA (Interactive Digital Media) at Ravensbourne College of Design and Community in London. After his graduation, he worked for an Ars Electronica (Austria) award-winning project, Last.fm in London. Upon his return to Hong Kong in 2004, he taught in the School of Creative Media in City University of Hong Kong and worked as Art Director in an interactive media design company. Throughout the years, Justin has been working in various media. He is the artistic director of a new media art group, Writing Machine. His works includes comics, animation, design, illustration and interactive multimedia. His illustration and design works are published regularly on local newspaper and magazine.

As a visual artist, Wong is always keen on researching the notion of graphic stroytelling in various graphic forms ranging from illustration, comics, animation and even public installation. His work has a strong sense of critique on traditional form reflected in his unique graphic style in political cartoons. Such interest has led him to investigate how story could be structured with the help of rules, constraints and computer programming, a domain in generative art. Being a political cartoonist, Wong is also interested in researching on the recent development of political cartoon scene in Hong Kong in the past decade.
