Porcelain photo (ci4soeng3) traverses life and death and play important roles in Chinese culture and society. How much do we understand the craftsmanship of porcelain photo making? This project explores the technical development and historical significance of porcelain photo making in Hong Kong. The speaker will examine porcelain photo and its making in contexts of material culture and history of photograph and share preliminary research notes informed by oral history of artisan of porcelain photo making in Hong Kong.

About the speaker:

Lee Wing Ki is a lecturer in photography at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University. This CCL seminar is part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Seed Grant project, Knowledge Transfer Office, Hong Kong Baptist University.
